A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
February 2026
Shaftesbury Theatre, London’s West End
Learning Stages were thrilled to work with Francis Holland School to bring their production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to life in London’s West End. Working closely with their Head of Drama and in house teams, Learning Stages provided support across Set Design and Construction, Lighting Design, Sound Design, Stage Management and Logistics.
Working closely with the Francis Holland School creative and teaching team, Learning Stages worked across multiple departments to bring this highly complex and time sensitive show together in a singe day.
Set Design and Construction
We gave twenty year-old Henry Anderson his first chance to design a set for the West End as he brought the piece to life in its woodland setting. Henry worked closely with the Director and team at the school, taking on board the scenic elements they required to bring the piece to life and adding his own stamp to the design of the piece. The Learning Stages team worked hard to build, paint and deliver the set in just three weeks, ensuring it was ready to be flown over the existing set of Just for One Day at Shaftesbury Theatre.
Lighting Design
Will Alder worked closely with the in house team at the Shaftesbury Theatre to use a rock-and-roll lighting rig to create magic and forestry for the piece. Will has lit shows for Francis Holland School for the last five years now, and hugely enjoys working with the team to create magic and mischief for their productions. With just four hours to light the show, Will created magical settings for the piece and ensured that each of the performers got their moment in the limelight.
Sound
Joe, Ed and their team worked with the school to mic over 25 students in the show. With just an hour to get equipment into the building and plugged into the in house system, the team worked quickly to ensure each line could be heard and the scene was set and underscored brilliantly. In addition, Joe multi-track recorded the entire piece so that the archive recording made for parents was re-mixed perfectly after the event.
Stage & Production Management
Learning Stages oversaw all production elements of this show, project managing this complex production to ensure that it was delivered on time, in budget and safely. We brought in professional Stage Manager Amy Moore to call the show and coordinate back stage. Amy oversaw that all technical cues were called and fired at the right moment, teching and rehearsing each moment to ensure that it all went without a hitch. Amy was supported by Ryan Nicholls who oversaw the running of backstage.
This was a hugely complex event delivered at the height of school production season, but our skilled team rose to the occasion and made sure the event went was delivered on time, safely and with the fun and good humour you could expect from a first class team.
